Formation Today
This is the place to look for new Christian Formation and other discovery opportunities both in and outside of the parish.
The Sabbath Economics class is starting its own blog. Look for the links to that on this page.
Exploration & Discovery
The Spirituality of the Psalms
“Elie Wiesel said, ‘Poets exist so that the dead may vote.’ They do vote in the Psalms. They vote for faith. But in voting for faith, they vote for candor, for pain, for passion – and finally for joy. Their persistent voting gives us a word that turns out to be the word of life” (Brueggemann, Spirituality, xiv).
A series on The Spirituality of the Psalms continues on Wednesday evenings during March from 6:00 - 8:00 in the Parish Hall. The sessions will be interactive and devotional, and a soup supper will be served. The series will be facilitated by Pete Schmidt, with brief closing devotions led by Chris Craun.
Jubilee and Sabbath Economics
BIBLICAL VISION OF SABBATH ECONOMICS
The class has ended but the discussion goes on. The Sabbath Economics Blog has notes from the class and and invitation to take part in the discussion.
With the Jubilee Act for eliminating the burden of debt for poverty-stricken nations pending in Congress, efforts to reach the UN Millennium Development Goals, and the urgency of pressing energy, environmental and development concerns, now is the time to join with others for action.
St. Michael's Book Club
We have begun a new thing at St. Michael's: St. Michael’s Book Club. We gather on the last Sunday evening of the month from the end of September through the end of May, excluding December and January, to discuss a particular book.
We will meet next on Sunday, February 22 from 7:00 - 8:30 pm, when we will gather to discuss The Great Emergence: How Christianity Is Changing and Why by Phyllis Tickle. To participate in this group, just obtain a copy of the book and read it ahead of time, in preparation for our discussion. A few copies may be available in the Parish Office, or you may obtain it through your favorite bookstore, online, or from the library.
We’re currently considering a number of possible books for this group to discuss in future meetings, so if you have any suggestions, we’d love to hear them.
For further information, to suggest a book, or to sign up for this group, please contact the Interim Rector via the Contact Page.
Lambeth Conference video journals available for viewing
A series of 10 video journals featuring more than 30 bishops from around the world who attended the 2008 Lambeth Conference of the Anglican Communion is now available for viewing at Trinity Wall Street's website www.trinitywallstreet.org.
Produced for the Lambeth Conference by Trinity Wall Street, the video journals were shown at the outset of each conference day, introducing participants to the daily thematic focus. The journals portray the personal experiences of bishops and spouses as they relate to that day's theme and include segments that capture the life of the conference.
The videos run approximately five minutes in length and address topics ranging from evangelism, social justice and the environment to engagement in a multi-faith world and the abuse of power. Bishops in the videos include Rowan Williams, Archbishop of Canterbury; Daniel Deng Bul Yak, Archbishop of Sudan; Miguel Tamayo, Bishop of Uruguay; Edward Malecdan, Bishop of Northern Philippines; David Beetge, Bishop of Highveld, South Africa; Victoria Matthews, Bishop of Christchurch, New Zealand; Alexander John Malik, Bishop of Lahore, Pakistan; and Mark Sisk, Bishop of New York.
